Build two lists, an unordered and ordered. As this task also calls for the creation of links, I used the list of groceries to suggest a good wine, excellent cheese and typical Portuguese bread for a tasting.

<p>The Internet and email have both been around for some time now.
The initial Internet was actually developed by the <em>US military</em>
as a means of communication that was impossible to break! It was
thought that if there were thousands of communication points
(rather than just a few transmitters) then it would be possible
to transmit a message even when many communication points had
been destroyed. No-one imagined that the Internet would become
a house-hold tool for many people throughout the world!</p>

<h3>The World-Wide-Web</h3>

<p>Until 1989, the Internet was primarily used by computer geeks
who knew all the required tools and commands. But everything
changed when <strong>Tim Berners-Lee</strong> of the <em>CERN</em> nuclear research facility near Geneva, Switzerland, introduced Hypertext documents.</p>

<p>Hypertext documents made it very simple to follow links to related
information, regardless of which country the information is stored
in – all that was required was a single click of the mouse! Yet
these links also had an implication for the way people would read
the information…</p>

A guerra mundial dos direitos autorais e o PL118 português

A guerra dos direitos autorais é um assunto que se alastra por todos os países. As tentativas de bloquear acessos, cobrar taxas abusivas pela utilização da tecnologia, impedir que controlemos os nossos próprios PCs através da instalação secreta de rootkits, spywares e malwares, ou atos de censura ao estilo dos melhores governos totalitários, mostram apenas que a procissão vai no adro.

Depois de ver o vídeo da palestra de Cory Doctorow em Berlim, percebi que tinha que partilhar este brilhante desempenho. Encontrei uma transcrição feita por Joshua Wise e resolvi traduzi-la e partilhá-la, já que o PL118 não é mais do que uma pequena batalha desta guerra mais ampla. Aqui vai:

A PL118, os Políticos e as lições de vida.

O Projeto de Lei 118/XII, vulgo PL118, é um caso exemplar de como a classe política, que teoricamente nos representa, tem na realidade uma agenda que não é a da população que representa. Para melhor compreensão da PL118.

Se analisarmos o comportamento e o desempenho da classe política ao longo dos tempos (2006, 2009, 2012), chegamos à conclusão de que as escolhas que os políticos fazem são na realidade fruto de ambições próprias, quando a maior ambição de um político deveria ser servir os seus representados.

Contudo, ao refletirmos sobre o desempenho da classe política, podemos aprender muito e retirar lições para a vida. São lições que nos ajudarão a ter melhor desempenho profissional, pessoal e a sermos pessoas melhores. Basta fazer ao contrário dos 10 pontos abaixo:

  1. Para qualquer assunto dar sempre prioridade ao dinheiro. Ouvir as pessoas com dinheiro, responder às pessoas com dinheiro, justificar suas ações em torno do dinheiro. Interessante notar que normalmente os políticos enriquecem;
  2. Aproveite-se do fato de que não sabe do que fala. Ambicione gerir processos e assuntos sobre os quais não tem o menor conhecimento;
  3. Mantenha, de forma obsessiva, o foco no curto prazo. Mesmo que tenha assegurada a reeleição, defina “longo prazo” como “antes da próxima eleição”;
  4. Ausente-se frequentemente do seu trabalho diário, que o deveria sustentar, para ativamente obter outros trabalhos complementares que remuneram melhor;
  5. Culpe o sistema, o outro lado e os antecessores por não estar a tomar medidas, corajosas e de sua autoria;
  6. Não pense nem analise pela sua própria cabeça. Mantenha o foco na repetição contínua de quezílias e da linha de argumentação do partido;
  7. Se tiver de escolher entre trabalhar duro e ir à televisão, vá à televisão;
  8. Quando um problema difícil aparecer, assobie para o lado e veja se o problema desaparece ou se alguém resolve;
  9. Tente, por todos os meios, parar a resistência mais dura e apaixonada ao trabalho que faz contra quem representa, ignorando-a silenciosamente e esperando que desapareça;
  10. Se a resistência não desaparecer socorra-se de todos os recursos, pagos por outros, mas que estão à sua disposição, para afincadamente manter os seus interesses.

Qualquer um de nós sabe provavelmente mais sobre internet, computadores e meios digitais do que qualquer deputado autor do PL118. A pergunta a fazer é:

Pediram, esses deputados, a nossa opinião?

Com certeza os deputados têm problemas de comunicação. Basta ver as entrevistas da Deputada Gabriela Canavilhas à TSF (áudio e transcrição) e ao Expresso para ver que ou não entende o que está a fazer ou tem uma agenda oculta que já não sabe defender.

Como tudo na vida até com as coisas más podem ser rentabilizadas. Neste caso basta fazer ao contrário das Melhores Práticas dos Políticos, os 10 pontos listados acima.

Desenvolvimento tecnológico e a IBM enriquecem a SPA

Hoje a IBM anunciou que conseguiu reduzir o número de átomos para armazenar 1 bit de 1 milhão para 12. Se dividirmos 1.000.000 / 12 encontramos 83.333. Este número, 83.333, significa simplesmente que a capacidade de uma Pen USB de 1 GigaByte (GB), que custa algo como € 2,00,  vai ser multiplicada por 83.333, isto é passa a ter 83.333 GB. Se dividirmos 83.333 / 1000, obtemos 83 e transformamos a unidade de GB para TeraBytes (TB), isto é, 1TB é aproximadamente 1000 GB.

É isso mesmo, uma pen de 1GB, com esta nova tecologia da IBM, passa a ter 83 TB. Os grandes discos actualmente vendidos nas lojas têm capacidade de 3 TB. Vamos poder andar com uma pen no bolso que tem 27 vezes mais capacidade que os actuais grandes discos e digamos que custará 20 euros?
Infelizmente em Portugal, se o projeto de Lei 118 do PS passar, vamos pagar por direitos autorais 0,2 € por GB até 1 TB e depois vamos pagar 0,05 € por GB acima de 1 TB. Isto significa que esta Pen USB de 83 TB (equivalente aos actuais 1 GB) custará além dos 20 € mais 4.120 €, pois teremos que pagar 4.120 € (é isso mesmo, quatro mil cento e vinte) de direitos de autor.

Isto significa que uma Pen equivalente a 1 GB actuais vai custar 4.140 euros!

Pergunto: que interesses movem os deputados para fazerem uma lei como a PL 118, que é visivelmente absurda?
Esta é uma boa lei. Portugal que anda a par e passo com os países mais adiantados nas tecnologias de informação e comunicação (TIC) vai certamente atrasar-se. Mais uma vez somos coveiros de nós próprios. E estes coveiros são os que se orgulham de produzir avanços civilizacionais por outras leis recentemente publicadas.

Haja ganância, haja ignorância. Viva o obscurantismo!

HTML text editor

To write my first HTML document I did use Adobe Dreamweaver. But it is much more than a text editor. It’s a very complex and complete software package you must invest time to learn.

Thus, because right now I want to learn html and not Dreamweaver, I’ll try another tool. After reading several comments in P2PU I decided to try Notepad++. In the near future I will give some feedback.
